We perform a detailed examination of the patient's post-injury status, evaluating for possible emotional issues such as post-traumatic stress and depression, as well as evaluating cognitive functions such as concentration, memory, and ability to organize, use judgement, problem-solve and plan.
We provide an individualized treatment program designed to help individuals develop strategies to improve their capacity to remember things, organize tasks, concentrate better, and increase the speed of their mental processing. We place special emphasis upon the development of pacing techniques to manage escalations in fatigue and other sequale in order to optimize individuals' overall cognitive functioning.
We provide individual psychotherapy to help with depression, anxiety, frustration, and loss of self-esteem that are common in the wake of brain injury. Since the patient is often unaware of his or her symptoms, we work towards the acknowledgement that is necessary for meaningful treatment, and assist with developing effective coping techniques to manage the long-term effects of brain injuries.
We make efforts to ready patients for employment or other meaningful occupation in order to re-establish their self-esteem, contribute to their family's livelihood, and take a useful place in society. We facilitate contact with other agencies that provide additional vocational rehabilitative services, as appropriate, to ensure successful return to work or educational pursuits.
Clinical coordination services are provided to integrate the various treatments and interface with the larger community by contacting the patient's doctors, lawyers, and insurance carriers.
